The style of our iconography and pictograms reflects the core design foundation of the International brand. They feature angular, geometric shapes that are clean and simple, ensuring they are easy to read in both small and larger sizes.

VISUAL DNA

The visual DNA of our design is deeply rooted in the International symbol. The 45-degree angle, a prominent feature of the symbol, along with the angular strokes established in our typography are key elements that influence our iconography and pictograms.

Implementing our visual DNA ensures a cohesive and harmonious visual language across our entire library.

FOOTPRINT

Footprints are guiding shapes that help create a balanced library. The shapes work as a basic guide to create a visually stable and coherent foundation for both our icons and pictograms.

ICONOGRAPHY

Icons are visual symbols used to represent ideas, objects or actions. They communicate messages at a glance, afford interactivity and draw attention to important information. They are universal, coherent, communicative assets.

Grid & stroke weight

Icons are built on a 32 × 32 px grid. A padding of 2 px allows for sufficient clearspace surrounding the icons. A stroke of 2 px provides sufficient legibility at small sizes.

Corners & junctions

Junctions and corners provide another opportunity to express our visual DNA and ensure a cohesive and harmonious visual language across our entire library. The junctions and corners are executed at 45°, reflecting the angle in the International symbol.

PICTOGRAMS

Pictograms make information more digestible and engaging across a variety of touch points and channels. They are more visually elaborate than icons owing to their use in larger sizes and reduced functional requirements.
